Deciding to move towards a more plant-based way of eating really is a journey - one that makes you reconsider everything you thought you knew about food and nutrition. 

My husband and I made the switch after a devastating loss that left us scared but determined to do everything we could to stay healthy as we got older. (You can read the whole story here.)

 

We learned about plant-based nutrition and were 100% committed, but we knew nothing about what it meant to actually be vegan

Other than my husband, I knew literally no one who ate this way. And while he's amazing, he’s not a “how the hell do we eat all these plants when food seems to revolve around meat and cheese” expert. 

You want to make plant-based changes that support your health as you get older, but you don’t know where to start. 

I thought if I learned enough and saved enough recipes, it would be a piece of cake.

So I researched. I learned about ingredients, found recipes, and studied nutrition facts and scientific studies that reassured me we were on the right track. But facts and statistics only got me so far.

What I really wanted was someone who could guide me through all the things you can’t get from a website or a book.

 

Things I didn’t know I’d need help with until I was knee-deep in the cauliflower-based queso (Hey, don’t knock it ‘til you try it.).

Things like:

  • How to make sense of all the new information I’d learned that didn’t fit into my existing definition of “healthy”.

  • How to navigate the emotional attachment I had to certain foods that I was 100% unaware of until we went plant-based.

  • How to take my generic goal of being “healthy” and turn it into a specific, defining part of who I am and how I want to feel [Pro Tip: This makes this whole process so much easier!].

  • How to come up with a plan that worked for my ACTUAL life and not the perfect one I sometimes liked to pretend I lived.

  • How to get the 2 teenagers living in my house at the time who most definitely DID NOT sign up for this to at least try some new things.

  • How to give myself grace on the days it all went to shit and I ate cereal for dinner.

What started as a simple desire to improve our own health as we age evolved into a passion for wanting to help others discover and embrace all of the advantages of a plant-based lifestyle

I left my teaching job, combined my experience in education with my Plant-based Nutrition and Holistic Nutrition certificates and The Plantified Plate Nutrition Coaching was born. 

Now I get to be the person that clueless-brand-new-to-plant-based-eating me so desperately needed.

  • 🐮 I'm a little (ok, a lot) obsessed with goats and cows. Yes, that's a goat selfie. I also got to cuddle a cow. It was the best day ever 🐐.

  • 🤢 I hate mustard, to the point I will not eat something if you put mustard on it. (I wrote a persuasive argument about it once. My hate runs deep.)

  • 🗼 I oddly like the smell of exhaust because it reminds me of the first time I went to Paris when I was 17. 

  • 🔤 I can say the alphabet backwards. This has never once helped me with anything in my life.

  • 🧟 I have an irrational fear of zombies and won't watch any movies or shows about them. (Yes, I know they're not real. That is irrelevant.)​
