Think small changes aren’t worth it? Think again.

You’re ready. You’re convinced that if you completely overhaul your entire diet, all of your problems will be solved. You have a plan. You’re motivated. You’re going to feel so much better and it’s going to be amazing.
Then reality hits. Maybe changing everything all at once was a little too ambitious.
Meal prep becomes overwhelming.
Your favorite snacks seem to call your name, and .
Before you know it, that swiss chard you swore you were going to try is a puddle of brown sludge at the bottom of the veggie drawer. 🤦♀️
But I’m going to let you in on a little secret.
Changing the way you eat doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing. It shouldn’t be!
Small shifts can add up to big results over time. You don’t need to go from zero to kale in one day to start seeing and feeling the benefits.
Not convinced? Keep reading. ⬇️
🎉 You can do it! (Small changes are sustainable.)
No matter how motivated we might be feeling, huge changes all at once are hard to stick with. It’s super easy to feel deprived, frustrated, and ultimately burned out.
But adding one plant-based meal to your weekly rotation or swapping out a handful of nuts for your usual bowl of cheese puffs is totally doable.
And repeatable. 🙌
As you make those small, plant-based choices over and over again, those tiny shifts become habits, and before you know it, you’ve created a sustainable, healthier lifestyle without feeling like you’re giving up everything you love.
⛓️ The snowball effect. (One small change leads to another.)
Small changes create momentum. When you start feeling the positive effects of just one or two tiny shifts, you’re more motivated to keep going and add more.
🍌 Start your day with overnight oats topped with fruit, instead of sugary boxed cereal, and suddenly you notice you feel better and don't get the mid-morning munchies anymore.
💧 Swap out water for your afternoon soda, and before you know it, you realize don’t “need” it anymore.
🚶♀️ Instead of feeling like curling up under your desk for a nap at 2:00 PM, you have the energy for a quick walk around the block.
Not to mention, each one of these small shifts you make compounds, like interest.
Stick with me here. 👩🔬
If you start with $100, earning 5% interest per day, on day two you now have $105. But you don’t just add another $5 on day three… you add $5.25 because on day two you earned 5% on $105. (That’s my current understanding of how it works. That being said, I don’t math, so if that’s not right, kindly send me an email at hello@theplantifiedplate.com and explain it to me like I’m five.)
Math aside, the health benefits that come from eating more plants work the same way. You aren’t just improving a little bit from your baseline starting point, you’re improving a little bit from your new, healthier normal every day.
And when you start to genuinely feel better, you want to continue doing the things that will sustain that feeling and it becomes a whole lot easier to let go of the things that don’t.
🙌 I totally got this! (Small wins boost your confidence.)
It feels good to accomplish something, no matter how small. When you make a tiny change and see the benefits, it builds your confidence. You start to realize that you can take control of your health, one baby step at a time.
And confidence is key 🗝️.
On those days when life gets life-y and the best laid plans end up in garbage disposal, that confidence is what keeps you going. It’s the reminder that even if today was a dumpster fire 🔥 of epic proportions, all those other small wins are a fantastic reminder to your brain that in spite of an off day, you do, in fact, got this.
💁♀️ You do you, Scotty P. (Small changes are easy to personalize.)
One-size-fits-all simply doesn’t work when it comes to health and nutrition. Everything from preferences and food intolerances to daily schedules and cultural traditions can influence the kinds of dietary changes we make, and that’s yet another reason small shifts are so effective.
💪 You get to choose the changes that make sense for you and the way you live your life.
Maybe you love to cook so that means experimenting with a new plant-based recipe each week.
Or maybe it’s as simple as swapping in some beans for the ground beef on the next Taco Tuesday.
Small changes allow you to personalize your journey based on your preferences, lifestyle, and goals. And when it’s personal, it’s a lot easier to stick with.
👉 You’re intrigued. Now what?
Ok, so you might be thinking "Yes, this all sounds great in theory, but where do I start?" You could literally start anywhere, with any food choice, but given how often we are either thinking about eating, preparing to eat, or stuffing our faces with food, that seems overwhelming. I get it.
